It was 1977 when I found
brindle Great Dane male running loose near by the stables I
used to ride and take care of horses.
I took that male home and tried to found the owner.
After one night’s visit to my home the owner was found and I
had fallen
in love with this breed.
I decided that I want to have such a wonderful dog of my own.
Next Thursday I saw an
announcement in a newspaper and so I
bought my first Great Dane.
Some people asked my sister: “How come she took a Great Dane?”
and my sister answered: “Well she
has always been fond of
horses!”
That bitch was the most winning Great Dane in Finland ,
“Kultadoggi” in 1979 & 1980.
She also won
our specialty show in 1979.
Her granddaughter Int & Nord Ch Finndanes Both Nice And
Wise
was “Kultadoggi” in 1986.
I bred four Int & Nord Champions and 15 Finnish Champions.
I was awarded by Finnish Kennelclub’s highest prize:
Vuolasvirta prize n:o 191 in 1989.
I lost my last dane in December 2003 and I thought I could
live
without a dog for a while, but after a year I thought I needed to have
a dog again.
At that time I wanted to have a smaller dog with short
coat
and a very good friend of mine, Heli Sairola, had had pugs
as
long as I can remember. Pugs were like air to me whenever
I visited Heli.
I remember that in those dane years I once asked Heli that
how can you stand that noise they are making?
And now
at the moment I find pug snoring so calming.
